DPS RTPO Roadway Functional Classification Update
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) in coordination with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), approved the 2020 update to Urbanized Area Transportation Boundaries in Darke, Preble, and Shelby counties in 2024. This was the first step in the process of updating the functional classification of roadways within the DPS RTPO area.
Over the next few months, MVRPC staff will be working with ODOT and local jurisdictions in the 2020 Federal-Aid Roadway Functional Classification update—see the schedule below.

Every ten years after the Census Urbanized Area is defined, the Transportation Urbanized Area Boundaries must be updated, followed by changes to the roadway Functional Classification.
Maps with ODOT’s existing federal functional class designations are provided below. MVRPC will use the maps linked below as the starting point to propose additional changes. Please note that all maps also show the approved 2020 Transportation Urbanized Area Boundary.
