MVRPC analyzes crash data to determine the baseline trend for where and what types of crashes occur within the boundaries of the Region so that locations that may be in particular need for improvement are highlighted for deeper analysis.
The crash data used in this analysis for the Darke, Preble, and Shelby County Region was collected between 2019 and 2021 from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and from Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) police reports. High priority intersections and roadway segments were selected based on a variety of factors including the frequency and the severity of crashes.
High-Crash Locations
In the Regional SFY 2023 High Crash Location Analysis, intersections and roadway segments were ranked based on an ODOT point system that prioritized locations with higher crash frequency and severity values. Regional roadway locations were prioritized as low (106 segments, 25 intersections), medium (62 segments, 18 intersections), and high (37 segments, 12 intersections) priority. These priority high-crash locations are displayed in the map below.
