Dayton, OH – The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) has been working with local organizations to distribute safety packages for pedestrians and cyclists to help increase their visibility by motorists. The safety package consists of:
- An adjustable, reflective safety strap;
- A blinking, clip-on light; and
- An informational card with tips on how to be safe while walking or cycling near traffic, especially during dusk and dawn.
“The safety package contains items that are light-weight and easy to use. Using them is a simple way to make sure pedestrians and cyclists are seen by motorists,” explained Executive Director, Brian O. Martin, AICP. “In addition, it is important for pedestrians and cyclists to pay attention to their surroundings.”
A recent safety analysis revealed three areas of the Region experience a high number of pedestrian or bicycle crashes. Targeting distribution to these areas, Huber Heights (Taylorsville Road), Miami Township (SR725/SR741) and Dayton (Wayne Avenue), was a priority to help reduce crashes. Established in 1964, the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission promotes collaboration among communities, stakeholders, and residents to advance regional priorities.
