Dayton, OH – On April 22, 2025, the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC), along with project partners, Drive Electric Dayton, Heartland Charging Services and Dayton Metro Library, ceremoniously plugged in the first electric vehicle at the newly constructed Level 2 charger available at the Trotwood Branch of the Dayton Metro Library. This location, along with 23 other Level II electric vehicle chargers located in parks, libraries, and recreation facilities are near completion and ready for community members.
“The network of electric vehicles chargers available to our community members continues to grow and provide expanded opportunity for sustainable transportation alternatives. Through the dedicated efforts and collaboration of partners, this project adds 24 new Level II charging locations to the Blink Charging Network and brings more locations for our residents and visitors to plug-in,” stated MVRPC Executive Director, Brian O. Martin, AICP.
In the Fall of 2022, MVRPC solicited our member communities and organizations for suitable locations to install Level II community-oriented electric vehicle chargers. In exchange for hosting the chargers, MVRPC would pay 100 percent of the design, construction, and operational costs for a period of 5 years using funds from the Carbon Reduction Program sub-allocated to the Region.
The following communities/organizations applied to partner with MVRPC and were selected to host charging stations: City of Bellbrook, City of Brookville, City of Centerville, Centerville-Washington Park District, City of Dayton, Dayton Metro Library, Five Rivers MetroParks/Miami Conservancy District, City of Kettering, and Miami County Park District.
To deliver the project, MVRPC partnered with Michael Baker International to provide preliminary engineering and design services and CTL Engineering Inc. for construction inspection services. Heartland Charging Services (Blink Charging Network) was the winning bidder to install and operate the chargers.
