Executive Director's Update

September 2018 Update

Safety Campaign 2018
MVRPC analyzes crash data to improve the safety of our transportation system. The analysis outlines trending crash types and high-crash locations around the region and the information is used to prioritize safety improvements and education campaigns. In an effort to promote simple actions that residents can take to improve their safety, MVRPC has developed an educational campaign with messages featured on billboards, buses, and in the newspaper. Visit the Safety Campaign 2018 page to view the campaign.

Orientations Held to Inform Board and TAC Delegates and Alternates
On August 9, 2018 and August 29, 2018, the MVRPC staff scheduled and hosted an agency orientation for new delegates, members, and alternates of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and Board of Directors. MVRPC staff presented overall information on the agency’s purpose, structure, and role in the Miami Valley plus specific information on Transportation Planning, Regional Planning, Sustainability and Environmental Planning, and details on various programs, campaigns, and the agency’s website www.mvrpc.org.

The two meetings were well attended and the members mentioned their communities appreciate and value the work of MVRPC. For all committee delegates and alternates to review, the orientation slides have been saved at www.mvrpc.org/committee-center in the September Board Meeting Attachment section.

Laura Henry – Marketing and Public Outreach Coordinator
As someone with varied interests, Springfield native Laura Henry didn’t want to limit herself when it came to job opportunities. Laura attended Springfield’s Shawnee High School and graduated from Wright State University where she was an active member of the Delta Zeta sorority. She majored in Business Management and minored in Political Science noting that she wanted something in business that was broad-based enough to keep her job options open. After a few internships, she graduated in 2007 and began working for Clear Channel Radio / iHeartMedia in Dayton as an Account Manager. Later, Laura was promoted to Digital Sales Coordinator working in Indianapolis and Dayton. She joined MVRPC in 2014 as the Marketing & Public Outreach Associate, and Laura was recently promoted to Coordinator. Laura’s primary responsibilities include oversight of MVRPC’s social media presence (which has grown tremendously) and Public Participation efforts. She also assists with the Rideshare and Air Quality Awareness Programs. In her free time, she enjoys attending live concerts/festivals around the country, practicing yoga, crafting, and tackling home décor projects. Recently, she refinished her family’s antique furniture, built a floor-to-ceiling family tree (complete with family photos), and an outdoor patio table out of reclaimed barn wood for her boyfriend. How’s that for having varied interests?

MVRPC Night Out at the Dragons
On Monday, August 20, 2018, the staff and guests, including City of Riverside’s Deputy Mayor, Sara Lommatzsch and City Manager, Mark Carpenter, enjoyed a night out at Fifth Third Field to watch the Dayton Dragons baseball team take on the Bowling Green Hot Rods. The Dragons took an early lead with a two-run home run in the third inning. Unfortunately, the lead was short lived and the Hot Rods defeated the Dragons 5 - 2. While the game did not play out in favor of the home team, it was still a great evening out at the ballpark while enjoying outstanding service and food by the Dayton Dragons staff.
