July 2017 Update

MVRPC Hosted LUCA Workshop for 2020 Census Update
On Thursday, May 18, 2017, MVRPC hosted the 2020 Local Update of Census Addresses (LUCA) Workshop. As the photo at left shows, we hosted the meeting in our Lake Conference Room. The LUCA program provides local officials the opportunity to review and comment on the U.S. Census Bureau’s residential address list to ensure an accurate 2020 Census. Ms. Rose Simmons, a representative from the U.S. Census Bureau in Columbus, provided information about the 2020 Census LUCA program, how to participate, and the schedule for future steps needed to complete the Census.

MVRPC, as a U.S. Census Affiliate organization, will be assisting the U.S. Census Bureau for its 2020 Census including information sharing with our members. For more information, contact Lynn Zuch, Principal Planner, at lzuch@mvrpc.org.

MVRPC Hosted Introduction to ArcGIS Desktop Training Session
MVRPC hosted its second Geographic Information System (GIS) training session on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Wright State University’s GIS Lab. The event was a huge success, with a total of 17 attendees, 16 of which were from 11 different MVRPC member organizations. The session was intended for first time GIS users and focused on hands-on learning on how to use ArcGIS Desktop software.  MVRPC staff members served as instructors and each participant had an opportunity to learn how to import, manipulate, analyze, and map demographic data using ArcGIS Desktop.

RIDESHARE Program Update
The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission’s RIDESHARE Program is pleased to announce it’s now part of a statewide initiative which features updated ride matching software plus a new name and tagline (Gohio Commute – A Smarter Way).  MVRPC’s RIDESHARE Program, along with six other Ohio-based ridesharing programs, is a member the Ohio Association of Regional Councils (OARC). OARC contracted with RideAmigos, an industry leader specializing in providing transportation demand management systems, to develop the ride-matching program. The program helps match people who want to commute together to work, college, or other destinations. Features include a mobile-friendly platform, direct messaging to others with whom the user has matched, ability to track trips to gauge their environmental impact, and information about other transportation options in the Region. Please visit MiamiValleyRideshare.org for information and a link to the updated matching website.
