Health and Equity in Transportation Training

Would you like to help transform your community into a healthier and more equitable place? If so, join us for the “Health and Equity in Transportation” workshop from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2018 - hosted by the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (GDRTA) and the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC). In this four-hour workshop, you’ll learn the causes of health disparities and chronic disease, as well as the role active transportation has in solving these issues. Participants will also learn strategies for improving access to active transportation in their community, as well as develop skills to better collaborate with public health and transit professionals.

The course is divided into four parts.

  • Part I provides an overview of relevant public health concepts.
  • Part II introduces active living and transportation as a means to address health disparities and reduce chronic disease.
  • Part III and IV provide implementation guidance on how communities can expand active transportation and active lifestyle options to low-income, minority, and underserved populations-- in addition to the community at-large—by creating collaborative space for public health and transportation professionals.

The course offers continuing education credits and will be held on the 2nd floor training room of the GDRTA’s Transit Center (4 South Main St., Dayton, OH 45402). Enter from the Third Street doors, and alert the security desk that you need to use the gold elevator to the second floor.
