Dayton OH The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) is pleased to announce the release of the updated Miami Valley Ohio Bikeways Guide Map. It is the fifth edition of this very popular map and copies will be available at local park districts, some local governments, and libraries beginning in mid-April. Distribution sites are listed on the attached poster.
“This edition provides the most up-to-date information about the Miami Valley Trails, the nation’s largest network of paved, off-street trails. Over 100,000 copies were printed this time, which is the largest print run of the five editions,” stated Brian O. Martin, MVRPC’s Executive Director. “It’s a testament to its popularity. Our local partners, who distribute and help pay for the map, anticipate more copies of this popular map are needed”.
The map highlights the 340+ miles of trails across ten counties in Ohio. Connections to Columbus’ and Cincinnati’s bike trails are also noted. Information is also provided about state and national trails that pass through the Miami Valley, including the North Country Scenic Trail, U.S. Bicycle Route 50, and the Buckeye Trail.
“We are extremely grateful for our sponsors who help offset the cost to print these maps. These sponsorships provide critical funding enabling the park districts, local governments, and libraries to provide the maps free-of-charge,” explained Martin. This year’s “Presenting Sponsor” is Cox Media Group (Ohio). Returning sponsors include DP&L, Dayton Children’s Hospital, Dayton Cycling Club, Bike Miami Valley, and Great Miami Outfitters. New sponsors include Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken, City of Miamisburg, Kettering Health Network, Friends of Xenia Station, and Yellow Springs Chamber of Commerce.
The Miami Valley Trails website (www.miamivalleytrails.org) was also updated and is now mobile-friendly. “This site serves as a companion piece to the printed map,” explained Martin. “We realize that not all cyclists want to carry a map with them, but they more than likely will be carrying their smart phone. This website includes even more information than the map.” In addition to sponsoring the printed map, Cox Media Group (Ohio) is also the presenting sponsor of the website.
Established in 1964, the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission promotes collaboration among communities, stakeholders, and residents to advance regional priorities. MVRPC is a forum and resource where the Board of Directors identifies priorities, develops public policy and collaborative strategies to improve quality of life throughout the Miami Valley Region. MVRPC performs various regional planning activities, including air quality, water quality, transportation, land use, research and GIS.
