MVRPC Recipient of Awards at 2016 Ohio GIS Conference

Dayton, OH - The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) received two (2) awards in the Map Gallery Competition during the 2016 Ohio Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Conference.  The 2014 Miami Valley Employment story map received the Second Place award in the Digital Map category and the Miami Valley Regional Vacancy Profile map received the coveted People’s Choice Award.

“These awards are a testament to how important GIS has become. GIS helps convey detailed information in a way that’s easily understood and can help local governments, businesses, non-profits and their planners to visually depict changes that have occurred,” explained MVRPC’s Executive Director, Brian O. Martin, AICP.

This year’s conference was held during September 28-30, 2016, in Columbus, OH, with more than 300 GIS professionals in attendance.  The Ohio GIS Conference is sponsored by the County Engineers Association of Ohio (CEAO), the Ohio Chapter of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA), and the Ohio Geographically Referenced Information Program (OGRIP).

Established in 1964, the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission promotes collaboration among communities, stakeholders, and residents to advance regional priorities.  MVRPC is a forum and resource where the Board of Directors identifies priorities, develops public policy and collaborative strategies to improve quality of life throughout the Miami Valley Region.  MVRPC performs various regional planning activities, including air quality, water quality, transportation, land use, research and GIS.  As the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), MVRPC is responsible for transportation planning in Greene, Miami and Montgomery Counties and parts of northern Warren County. MVRPC's areawide water quality planning designation encompasses five (5) counties: Darke, Preble plus the three MPO counties.
