MVRPC Marking National Rideshare Week, October 2 - 6, 2017

Dayton, OH – The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC) will be marking National Rideshare Week, October 2 - 6, 2017, with daily posts on social media highlighting the benefits of ridesharing. “National Rideshare Week is a great time to try a smarter way to get to school or work,” stated MVRPC’s Executive Director, Brian O. Martin, AICP. “A smarter way could be by carpooling, biking, or vanpooling to your destination.  All these options save money, and help reduce both traffic congestion and air pollution.”  Commuters are encouraged to follow MVRPC and comment about your ridesharing experiences on MVRPC’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

MVRPC sponsors the local RIDESHARE Program which is available for free to anyone who lives, works, or attends college in Clinton, Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery or Preble Counties. Commuters may register at MiamiValleyRideshare.org to receive a match list of people who have similar schedules and destinations.  After collecting the match list, the client may contact other ride matched commuters to set up a carpool, vanpool, or bikepool. The RIDESHARE Program is a partner of Gohio Commute, a statewide initiative, promoting commuting alternatives to driving alone.

Established in 1964, the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission promotes collaboration among communities, stakeholders, and residents to advance regional priorities. MVRPC is a forum and resource where the Board of Directors identifies priorities and develops public policy and collaborative strategies to improve quality of life throughout the Miami Valley Region. MVRPC performs various regional planning activities, including air quality, water quality, transportation, land use, research and GIS. As the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), MVRPC is responsible for transportation planning in Greene, Miami and Montgomery Counties and parts of northern Warren County. MVRPC's areawide water quality planning designation encompasses five (5) counties: Darke, Preble plus the three MPO counties.
