b'Facility Planning Subcommittee now the New Water& Environment Subcommittee MVRPC held the initial meeting of the Water & Environment Subcommittee in August 2023. The Water & Environment Subcommittee (WESC) is not a brand new committee, but a broadening of the existing Areawide Facility Planning Subcommittee (AFPSC). The Facility Planning Subcommittee was established under the Regional Water Quality Management Plan to provide input on the issue related to regional wastewater treatment planning. In order to have a panel that can review and address any number of environmental issues, MVRPC broadened the participation beyond wastewater technical staff to include other member jurisdictions, regional advocates and academic professionals. The WESC reviews and recommends on wastewater planning, and it will also provide technical review for the newly announced Climate Pollution Reduction Planning Program for the Dayton Region.Safe Streets for All Grant Program Awarded to MVRPC In December 2023, MVRPC was awarded funds through the U.S. Department of Transportations Safe Streets for All (SS4A) Grant Program to develop a regional action plan aimed at preventing roadway deaths and serious injuries. This regional action plan will build on MVRPCs prior work related to transportation safety, including analysis of crash data, identification of high crash locations, and development of countermeasures. This project will feature the development of a SS4A compliant safety action plan for the Miami Valley region. The development of this action plan is a necessary first step which will allow local jurisdictions to apply for future U.S. Department of Transportation SS4A implementation grants. The project is expected to begin Summer 2024 and is anticipated to be complete on or before June 2026.Major project elements will include: Setting goals and establishing a commitment to reduce fatalities and serious injuriesConducting a safety analysis of existing conditions, location, and severity of crashesUndertaking robust public and stakeholder engagement including coordination with other local SS4A grantrecipients Conducting an equity analysis that identifies underserved communities and advances an inclusive andrepresentative planning process Assessing current policies, plans, and standards for opportunities to improve safetyIdentifying projects and strategies to address safety issues on area roadwaysDeveloping a progress monitoring approach to track outcomes For updates about this project, visit mvrpc.org. 25'
