b'MVRPC 2023 ANNUAL REPORTPARTNERSHIPSThe First Year of the InstituteSteering Committee With the support of the MVRPC Board of Directors and The Dayton Foundation, the Institute for Livable & Equitable Communities (ILEC) has been established as part of the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC). The ILEC places an intentional focus on livability and equity, launching programs and transforming systems that create a community where all people can thrive. The ILEC plays a central role of coordination, by convening critical partners and stakeholders, to co-create a long-term and comprehensive effort to address the nine domains of the institute which are proven to improve livability and equity in communities. For 2023, the Institute successfully delivered in eight of nine domains. Below are a sampling of the actionsrelated to the domains. EducationThe Miami Valley Age-Friendly Network (MVAFN) meeting held on January 11, 2023 which focused on civic participation and employment education. EngagementThe ILEC has provided sponsorships to Latinos Unidos en Dayton to support their vision of a strong, healthy, andsuccessful Latino community and the National Conference for Community and Justice of Greater Dayton to support their mission of building a community dedicated to eliminating bias, bigotry, and all forms of discrimination. Health & EnvironmentPursuit of a second Environmental Justice Academy with the Environmental Protection Agency because of the success and continued partnerships created by the inaugural academy.HousingThis topic was a priority domain for the Regional Equity Initiative Subcommittee. The April 12, 2023 meeting focusedon housing. NeighborhoodThe MVAFN hosted a meeting on November 15, 2023 focused on open space and the built environment, which are aspects of the neighborhood and environment domain.Technology and ConnectivityThe Institute recently collaborated with the Miami Valley Urban League to secure grant funding towards outreach efforts promoting affordable connectivity options to low-income residents/households, and will also be welcoming an American Connection Corps Member to add one year of critical capacity to support our regional digital inclusion efforts.TransportationThe MVAFN hosted a meeting on July 12, 2023 which focused transportation. More information about the Institute can be found at mvrpc.org/instituteInstitute for Livable & Equitable Communities Receives Achievement Award for a Medium Metro Area from the National Association of Regional Councils MVRPC received the Achievement Award for a Medium Metro area from the National Association of Regional Councils (NARC) for the Institute for Livable & Equitable Communities. NARC Achievement Awards recognize excellence in programs and services of regional councils nationwide. MVRPCs Executive Director, Brian O. Martin, accepted this award with MVRPC staff at NARCs 57th Annual Conference & Exhibition award ceremony on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, in Detroit, Michigan. The Institute being recognized for this award further emphasizes the impact of this project for the Region and other Regions throughout America.The Institutes work in promoting equity and enhancing livability in the Miami Valley Region serves as a model for other Regions and a guide for our member communities. It has successfully created a culture that embraces interactions amongdiverse groups while learning and practicing mutual respect and valuing the contributions of all.18'
