b'MVRPC 2023 ANNUAL REPORTSUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS AND ENVIRONMENTMVRPC Receives Climate Pollution Reduction GrantIn July 2023, MVRPC and the Miami Valley Region received good news from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the form of a $1 million planning grant from the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) program. The Dayton metro area was one of 79 metro areas (MSAs) awarded planning funds to participate in the program to support air quality planning for our Region. CPRG is a program from the Inflation Reduction Act that enables states and metro areas to quantify sources of climate pollution now and projected into the future, set local and regional goals for pollution reductions, and to select regionally prioritized strategies for meeting those goals. It is encouraging that the State of Ohio and the four largest metro areas in Ohio (Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Dayton) are all participating in the program, which could lead to a very comprehensive and effective set of climate action plans for Ohios future. For the remaining months of 2023, MVRPC worked with many regional partners to select and hire a consulting team to support this planning work. Sustainability Solutions Group and New Reach Community Consulting were selected and started work in early October. By the end of the year a regional climate pollution emissions inventory was completed, and a draft Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP) was ready for release for public review and comment. Work on this four-year planning grant will continue through Summer of 2027.Bring your Green Challenge and Dayton RegionalGreen AwardMVRPC Executive Director Brian O.
