b'MVRPC 2023 ANNUAL REPORTPARTNERSHIPSAge-Friendly Communities May 2023 marks a year since the official launch of the Miami Valley Age-Friendly Cohort as a component of the Institute for Livable & Equitable Communities at MVRPC. Our first Cohort of communities continues to work on age-friendly plans and policies to help their communities be more responsive, livable, and equitable for all residents. The Cohort entails nearly a dozen communities committed to implementing age-friendly strategies. Funding through The Dayton Foundation Del Mar Healthcare Fund continues to support community surveys and focus group sessions to help the Cohort assess the needs of older adults. Miami Valley Advances to the Largest Age-Friendly Region in OhioThe Coalition of Age-Friendly Communities in Ohio (CAFCO), headquartered in Columbus, serves as a dynamic hub for innovation and collaboration among the 28 communities currently enrolled in the AARP Livable Communities program. In October, the Miami Valley Age-Friendly Network crossed a major milestone, expanding to 13 communities, making our region the largest concentration of Age-Friendly communities in the state. MVRPC staff attended the CAFCO annual meeting on August 8th at the Ohio University - Dublin Campus. Age-friendly communities from across the state convened to discuss successes, challenges and models for implementation. Our Region continues to be ahead of the curve, as we grow our age-friendly network and we are pleased to welcome two new age-friendly communities, the cities of Dayton and Vandalia, as we move into year two in partnership with the Dayton Foundation. Dayton and Vandalia will join the Regions age-friendly cohort and begin their first year by developing a needs assessment to learn more about the assets, challenges and barriers to being an age-friendly community. Meanwhile, our existing age-friendly communities wrapped up year one determining where to focus their efforts as they move to year two and developing an action plan. MVRPC and The Dayton Foundation partnered with the age-friendly communities to offer a series of local events focused on topics identified during the first year.20'
